New Avian Flu Outbreak in South Viet Nam

VIET NAM - A new outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype has been reported in the south of the country.

In Follow-up Report No.6 dated 16 March, the veterinary authority in Viet Nam has informed the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about one new outbreak of high-path avian flu.

The outbreak started at Phuoc Trinh A in the province of Vinh Long on 6 March. Of the 1,600 bird in the village flock, 770 died and 830 have been destroyed.

The presence of the H5N1 variant of the avian flu virus has been confirmed.
