China notified the WTO Secretariat on 8 April of a request for consultations with the European Union regarding measures adopted by the EU to modify its tariff concessions on certain poultry meat products.

The request for consultations formally initiates a dispute in the WTO.

Consultations give both sides an opportunity to discuss the matter and to find a satisfactory solution without proceeding further with litigation.

After 60 days, if consultations have failed to resolve the dispute, China, the complainant, may request adjudication by a panel.

Further information is expected to be available from the WTO in the next few days set out in an official document.
