A practical ‘on farm’ tool for parent stock farm managers and based on the recently published Parent Stock Management Handbook, this new 'How To' series is designed to provide clear step by step instructions on how to complete key management practices for parent stock.

The series, produced by Aviagen’s Global Technical Transfer Team is intended to be an ongoing management support tool. Hard copies will be ring-bound in durable A5 folders with each section designed to be pulled out and reused on the farm time and time again.

An initial set of six 'How To' documents have been produced, with a plan to extend the series at regular intervals in the future.

The first six cover How To….

  • assess crop fill
  • measure pin bone spacing
  • weigh eggs
  • bulk-weigh broiler breeders
  • individually weigh broiler breeder females in rear, and
  • individually weigh broiler breeder females in production.

Nick French, Global Head of Technical Transfer said: “These first releases and future topics are based on feedback from Technical Service Managers out on the field so we are responding directly to the wishes of our customers.

“Because we understand the demands of the broiler breeder business, each can be taken into the breeder shed, and they cover key basic management points, which if over looked may negatively impact on breeder performance. The key to good performance is in getting the basic things correct. The 'How To' series is designed to be easily referenced and help focus the mind for maximum performance.”

Hard copies of the 'How To…' Broiler Breeder Management series will be made available from local Aviagen technical team members.

Aviagen customers can also download a copy of the Arbor Acres®, Indian River® or Ross® series from the Aviagen web site.
