Vietnamese Village Flock Hit by Avian Flu

VIET NAM - H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza has hit a village poultry flock in the south of the country, leading to the death of 900 birds.

Another outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza of the H5N1 subtype has been confirmed in a village poultry flock in southern Viet Nam.

According to Follow-up Report No.6 dated 9 April from the veterinary authority to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the flock was in Nhon Phu in Can Tho province, which is in the south of the country.

Starting on 5 April, 650 birds from the flock of 900 birds showed sign of the disease; 399 died and 501 have been destroyed.
