New Outbreak of High-path Avian Flu in Taiwanese Goose Flock

TAIWAN - One new outbreak of H5N2 highly pathogenic avian flu has been confirmed in Pingtung county.

According to Follow-up Report No.17 dated 17 April from the veterinary authority to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), there has been one new outbreak of high-path bird flu in Taiwan.

On 3 April, at a farm in Wandan Township in Pingtung county experienced abnormally high mortality in a commercial goose flock of 2,500 birds. In all, 590 birds died and 1,910 have been destroyed.

This is the 164th outbreak of avian flu in the country.

The presence of the H5N2 subtype of the virus has been confirmed by the National Laboratory (AHRI).

This farm has been put under movement restriction. Thorough cleaning and disinfection were conducted after the farm was depopulated. Surrounding poultry farms within a three-kilometre radius of the infected farm will remain under intensified surveillance for three months.
