Farmers in Papua New Guinea have welcomed the ban with an industry figure head believing Papua New Guinea deserves the same bio-security policies as Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

These countries allow cooked imports only, reports Radio New Zealand International.

Papa New Guinea’s livestock minister, Tommy Toscoll, introduced the ban last week, despite a “high level of confidence” from the Australian High Commission in Australian poultry safety.

The report added that maintaining market access for Australia’s agricultural products remains a “key priority” for Australia.
