Six More US Bird Flu Outbreaks

US - There have been six further confirmed outbreaks of H5N2 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in the US, predominantly in Minnesota.

The outbreaks, confirmed by the US Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, were concentrated in Minnesota's Kandiyohi county.

The six newly confirmed outbreaks are:

  • Minnesota, Kandiyohi county - 50,800 commercial turkeys;
  • Minnesota, Kandiyohi county - commercial turkeys, number pending;
  • Minnesota, Kandiyohi county - commercial turkeys, number pending;
  • Minnesota, Kandiyohi county - commercial turkeys, number pending;
  • Minnesota, Renville county - 48,900 commercial turkeys;
  • Iowa, Wright county - 991,500 commercial chickens.

The latest cases bring the number of detections in Minnesota to 92, with 8,220,760 birds affected.

However, if presumed cases are confirmed, this figure is likely to rise to 102 affected farms, according to data from the Minnesota state government.

The number of detections in Iowa now stands at 64, with 29,095,500 birds affected. Further presumed cases have also been reported by Iowa's state government.
