Five More Avian Flu Outbreaks Found in Ghana

GHANA - Five new outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza have been confirmed in Ghana.

The outbreaks were of the H5N1 type.

There were 2591 deaths from the disease in all, out of a susceptible population of 4669. 1779 animals were destroyed to prevent the disease spreading, and 299 were slaughtered.

The outbreaks occurred in two backyard flocks and three farms, in the Volta and Greater Accra provinces.
