Another Outbreak of Avian Flu in Ghana

GHANA - There has been one new outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Ghana.

The outbreak is of the H5N1 strain.

1302 birds died from the disease, out of a susceptible farm population of 1948 birds. 608 remaining birds were destroyed and 27 were slaughtered.

The farm contained 56 week old layers and nine week old pullets at the time, and is situated in Ashanti province in the south of the country.

Stamping out and quarantine measures have been conducted.
