The expectation in the industry is that the volume of poultry exported will be 12-15 thousand tons per year, which is $36 million to $45 million.

For cattle, the potential is 10 thousand tons per year, which totals about $42 million. Brazil will be the first country to provide fresh beef to the Asian nation.

Negotiations for the entry of products began there 90 days ago, at the request of Brazil's Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), with support from exporters.

When the new market has opened, companies interested in exporting to Myanmar may submit a request for qualification.

"Myanmar government technicians were at the Ministry of Agriculture and presented with our Agricultural Management Platform. They knew the models of international certificates that we adhere and approved the opening. It's an achievement of Brazilian agribusiness," said Ms Abreu.

Ms Abreu also highlighted the progress that Brazilian products have made in opening up new markets in Asia and Russia. These countries, she pointed out, are westernising their eating habits and starting to consume more products like coffee and beef.

"We have to be ready for these markets because they will need us. We will be on time to meet and expand our exports, but always mindful, of course, to sanitation. We want to be a country of excellence in agricultural defence," Ms Abreu continued.

Brazil is currently the world's largest exporter of beef and poultry and the third in pork.

"We have the potential to further expand," concluded Ms Abreu.
