The outbreaks were of the H5N8 subtype, and the reports continued up to June this year.

The outbreaks affected mainly duck farms, but also some chickens and geese.

Over 30 million birds were culled as a result of these outbreaks, although the exact number of birds infected with the disease is unclear. 236 birds are reported to have died from avian flu in these outbreaks.

The H5N8 avian flu situation in South Korea is described as stable but not resolved, and another report will be given to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) in six months.
