Nigerians Still Seizing Huge Poultry Volumes in Anti-Smuggling Campaign

10 August 2015

NIGERIA - Nigerian customs officials are still reporting huge seizures of frozen smuggled poultry products, after the third week of anti-smuggling effort 'Operation Hawk Descend'.

The seizures in the third week were worth 28,660,717 Nigerian Naira (N), equivalent to about $144,000.

The products, which consist of 5,915 cartons of frozen poultry mostly conveyed in commercial vehicles, were confiscated by Customs Officers around the South Western area of the country. This area consists of the Badagry Creeks, Seme axis and Idiroko axis of Ogun state.

While commending the efforts of the operatives, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Dikko Inde Abdullahi, stressed the need for the smugglers to desist from such acts, as they have negative consequences on the economy of the nation.

He further stated the customs service's commitment in bringing the activity of the smugglers to its barest minimum.

The customs authority called on the Poultry Association of Nigeria to give useful information and other forms of assistance that will further help the operatives to achieve the goal of completely crippling poultry smuggling into Nigeria.
