Highly Pathogenic Avian Flu Killing Backyard Poultry in Gaza

GAZA - Many different kinds of birds have been hit by six highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks in the Palestinian Autonomous Territory of Gaza.

There have been 9808 deaths out of 16,761 cases of the disease.

Another 42,877 birds have been destroyed to contain the disease. About 604,120 birds’ eggs have also been destroyed.

The infected population includes ducks, layers, Bulgarian hens and pigeons among others.

The disease was caused by one of the H5 strains of the virus.
