Mexico Inspecting Brazilian Poultry Slaughterhouses

BRAZIL - Health authorities from Mexico are in Brazil to visit slaughterhouses for chickens and turkeys.

The Mexican mission began on Monday 24 with a meeting at the Agricultural Defence Secretariat (SDA) from the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA). The identify of establishments to be visited was the subject of the initial meeting.

Mexican representatives will check the control system of the Federal Inspection Service (SIF) of Brazil.

According to the director of the Department of Animal Products Inspection (DIPOA), José Luis Vargas, auditors will visit 18 establishments in Mato Grosso, Goiás, São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul and Parana.

In 2014, Mexico imported US $ 852 million (706 tons) of chicken meat from different markets. Brazil bought US $ 36 million (13,000 tons).

The mission ends on September 4 with another meeting.
