More Nigerian Chickens Hit by Avian Flu

NIGERIA - There have been five more outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Nigeria.

The outbreaks were of the H5N1 serotype, and affected farms in the Rivers area.

The birds infected included both broilers and layers of different ages, as well as turkeys on one of the farms.

1822 birds died as a result of the outbreaks, and 6916 birds were destroyed.
