However, the pace of new findings seems to have slowed, with only three new outbreaks announced in January so far.

This compares with ten outbreaks announced on 31 December 2015 alone.

The new outbreak was declared on 6 January on a farm of 10,000 chickens and 4,000 ducks in the town of Gabat, in the Pyrénées Atlantiques region.

The strain of the outbreak has not yet been determined.
