An outbreak of H5N8 avian flu was found in native chickens in an abattoir, in Kaohsiung province.

One case was found, and the remaining 425 birds were also destroyed. The carcasses were destroyed and thorough cleaning and disinfection have been conducted in the abattoir.

Another four H5N2 outbreaks were reported in Tainan City and Taoyuan county, in ducks and geese.

Over 17,000 birds died and a further 17,000 were destroyed to prevent the outbreak from spreading.

Disinfection measures and extra surveillance are in place to try and prevent the disease from spreading.
