South Africa Considering Restrictions Against EU Poultry Imports
SOUTH AFRICA - South Africa's International Trade Administration Commission is investigating an application to restrict frozen bone-in chicken portion imports from Europe.

By: The Minister of Economic Development, Ebrahim Patel, instructed the commission to look into possible restrictions after an application from the South African Poultry Association (SAPA), the country's government gazette reported.
SAPA alleged that the frozen bone-in chicken portions from the EU are "threatening to cause a serious disturbance in the South African market."
South Africa recently agreed to allow a large quota of US chicken meat imports into the country duty-free, in order to avoid the loss of their trade benefits under the US' African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
