The NCS said the products were worth 53.3 million Nigerian Naira, and may have been illegally preserved with chemicals normally used to preserve dead bodies, according to The Guardian Nigeria.

As well as the 2000 cartons recently seized, the NCS apparently also impounded 1500 cartons in January.

The service has been trying to crack down on illegal poultry in the past year, with large volumes of poultry seized. The seizures are mainly due to similar concerns over preservation, contamination with chemicals and breaks in the cold chain.
