US - Awards to recognize outstanding Cobb500 performance were presented at the first broiler seminar organized by Abdalah Agriculture & Veterinary at the Movenpick Hotel Dead Sea, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The seminar, held under the supervision of the Delegate Jordan Minister of Agriculture Highness Dr Akeaf EL Zoaby, who was represented by Eng Abed ALKreem Al Shehab, Jordan Valley Agriculture director, was attended by 105 delegates representing all the major broiler producing companies in the country.

The event was opened by Abdalah Abady, general manager of the Agvet company, who reviewed the poultry industry of Jordan, its history and successes and the current challenges.

He said that since the early 1970’s the industry had faced various challenges that helped shape and give it a robustness. Everyone in the industry is committed to continue supporting poultry production to supply the market with healthy, affordable protein representing good value for money.

Agvet’s role was, he said, to provide customers with sales, technical service, seminars, field visits and exhibits at trade shows, backed by the resources of the Cobb Europe team to help achieve the best results.

Cobb Europe team presentations — with simultaneous Arabic translation — were given by Matthew Wilson, technical services director, on the world of Cobb and ventilation management for optimum broiler performance; by Hosam Amro, Cobb Europe technical manager, on the importance of broiler brooding principles, and by Dr Andre Derkx, Cobb Europe senior veterinarian, on respiratory disease control in the Middle East.

Hosam Amro stated: “The Jordanian poultry industry is characterized by integrations and independent broiler growers creating a wide range of expertise in the country and globally in the fields of management, veterinary science, nutrition, processing and hatchery.

“Cobb is intent on providing stock with the best genetic potential to fulfil the market requirements, and support growers through the use of innovative research, technology and technical service. Meetings like this one help us to deliver our message to the more remote areas that our resources can’t reach.”

Mohamed Hidar Amayreh, the deputy general manager of Union for Agriculture Development and Slaughterings, added: “Such meetings about modern practical management approaches are of great importance for the farm team as well as the executive level. They refresh knowledge and open channels with Cobb experts to help improve performance, which in turn will reflect positively on the competitiveness of the local industry”.
