Award for North American Cobb700 Flock of the Year31 May 2016
US - The Thomas family of Carthage, Mississippi, has won the award for the top Cobb700 flock in North America.
Skip Sprayberry, breeder manager of Peco Sebastopol, said Liza Thomas, along with her husband Chris, had built their farm in 1997, seeking to expand and complement their existing row crop and cattle farm. They raised their son and daughter on the family farm and now have three grandchildren enjoying the farm life.
“Mrs Thomas credits her success in the business to personally getting up each morning and feeding the flock herself,” he said. “Liza is assisted daily by Bip Zollicoffer, a neighbor and friend to the family. She credits him with helping her take care of routine maintenance of equipment in the laying houses.
“We at Peco Farms and Cobb want to congratulate the Thomas family on their fine achievement as recipients of this prestigious award.”
Tommy Walker, Cobb technical service representative, added: “I want to congratulate the Thomas family on achieving this award for the most total eggs per hen housed with a Cobb700 flock on an individual farm in North America.
“No doubt it takes hard work and consistently paying attention to details day in and day out. It also takes dedication and a great work ethic to make the sacrifices needed to achieve this great performance. I thank them on their fine achievement.”
