It is estimated that around 80 million chocolate Easter eggs are sold in the run up to Easter.

However, consumption of real eggs is forecast to have exceeded more than 180 million over the Easter weekend alone.

The record Easter sales for ‘real’ eggs follows very strong volume sales for the first quarter of 2017, with sales for the 12 weeks to 26 March showing growth of 7.4 per cent over the same period in 2016 (the equivalent of more than 100 million additional eggs).
