OIE Reports Three More HPAI Outbreaks in Riyadh

SAUDI ARABIA - Dr Ali Al Doweriej, Director General of Veterinary Health and Monitoring Department, has reported three further outbreaks of high-path H5N8 bird flu, all in Riyadh.

According to a follow-up report sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) yesterday, the affected population consists of backyard birds.

A total of 8806 birds were found susceptible, out of which 1853 cases were reported. Out of the 1853 affected birds, 1351 were found dead. Including the remaining 502 affected birds, a total of 7455 birds were killed and disposed of as a precautionary measure.

Additional control measures have also been applied. The source of the outbreaks remains inconclusive.
