OIE Reports Further H5N6 Bird Flu Outbreak in South Jeolla Province

04 January 2018

SOUTH KOREA - The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) has reported yet another outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N6 avian flu.

In it's sixth follow-up report received on 3 January, the OIE reports that the outbreak took place at another broiler duck farm in the province.

A real-time reverse transcriptase/polymerase chain reaction (RRT-PCR) test was carried out yesterday at the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency. The test resulted positive.

A total of 8300 birds were found to have shown signs of susceptibility. No birds were found affected. However, all 8300 ducks have been killed and disposed of.

The usual control measures have been applied by the OIE so as to prevent further spread of the H5N6 virus.

The source of the outbreaks still remains inconclusive and an epidemiological investigation is ongoing.
