Hong Kong halts poultry imports from South Korean province

19 March 2018

HONG KONG, 19 March (Xinhua) - The food safety authority of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) decided on Monday to suspend imports of poultry products from Chungcheongbuk-do Province in north central of South Korea

Xinhuanet reports that the move was made in response to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE)'s disclosure that the H5N6 strain of avian influenza had been found in the province.

The freeze on imports includes both poultry meat and eggs and is to be implemented immediately. According to Xinhuanet, the Center for Food Safety of Hong Kong's Food and Environmental Hygiene Department is monitoring the situation closely with South Korean authorities.
