By: In a letter Congresswoman DeLauro wrote to Secretary Sonny Perdue, DeLauro raises issue with the "passivity" of FSIS's auditing of poultry processors in China and the USDA's approval of three new plants.
She explains that FSIS granted equivalency to the entire poultry processing system in China despite only auditing a select number of them, which is a concern not least owing to"multiple antibiotic-resistant genes being carried by the country's commercial chicken flock."
In the letter she includes excerpted email correspondance showing that FSIS accepted the CNCA proposal and disparages the exchange pointing out that it is inappropriate to carry out such a process simply over email and undermines the inspection of the oversight process.
