According to a report from eFarmNEws, slaughter statistics are down 4.7 percent, exports by 16.5 percent and per capita consumption reduced to 42.2kg per year.

It's owing to an increase in feed prices, higher costs for energy and labour that demand declined during the first half of 2018, stated the report.

BRF, the Brazilian poultry giant, has been facing turmoil this year as its recent fraudulent activities were exposed, leading to the EU placing a ban on imports from the country.
