Infectious bronchitis: new method developed for rapid vaccine generation

19 September 2018

USA - USPOULTRY and the USPOULTRY Foundation announce the completion of a funded research project at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, in which researchers created a new rapid method to develop infectious bronchitis vaccines

The research was made possible in part by an endowing Foundation gift from Fieldale Farms and is part of the Association’s comprehensive research programme encompassing all phases of poultry and egg production and processing. A summary of the completed project is shown below.

Project #695: Improved Methods for the Control of Variant Strains of IBV, Dr Mark Jackwood, University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia

Dr Mark Jackwood at the University of Georgia recently completed a research project in which he developed a novel rapid process for developing new live infectious bronchitis virus vaccines. Because new variant infectious bronchitis virus strains consistently appear in the field, existing vaccines do not always provide adequate protection and development of new vaccines is a very slow process. The procedure developed by Dr Jackwood will allow rapid development of new vaccine strains to protect against emerging variant virus strains.

The research summary can be found on the USPOULTRY website. Information on other Association research may also be obtained by visiting the website.
