1,000 jobs saved at Banham Poultry in Norfolk

08 October 2018

UK - Workers at Banham Poultry in Attleborough are able to continue working thanks to a deal struck with Chesterfield Poultry

After two workers died last week after a gas leak on 4 October 2018 at the Attleborough-based Banham Poultry processing facility, the company announced it was up for sale. Allan Graham and Trevor Birch who work with Duff & Phelps were the joint administrators who secured the deal with Chesterfield Poultry, saving 1,000 jobs.

Joint administrator Graham said: “The business has faced a perfect storm in recent months, with increasing margin pressures from supermarket chains as a result of price competition, combined with increases in feed prices. It had been undertaking a number of capital projects designed to improve productivity in the longer-term, but these have impacted short-term profitability which in turn has hit margin.”

Chesterfield Poultry processes over 1.2 million birds per week. Chief executive of Chesterfield Poultry  Nadeem Iqbal said, "We are delighted to welcome Banham into the Chesterfield family and look forward to continuing the legacy of the brand and quality poultry production in Attleborough."
