H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza discovered in Laos

LAOS: The World Organisation for Animal Health has alerted to the discovery of highly pathogenic avian influenze (H5N1) in Laos

The outbreak was reported on 22 October 2018 and is limited to the south of the country. The status of the outbreak is continuing, or a date has not been provided for the final resolution of the outbreak.

45 birds are noted as being susveptible to the disease, with 28 cases reported and 18 deaths. 27 birds have been killed and disposed of.

The OIE notes that all normal measures have been applied to control the outbreak. Weekly follow-up reports will be submitted.
