Giving back: Cobb-Vantress contributes to Genesis House’s Tiny Home community

Cobb-Vantress, a global poultry research and technology company headquartered in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, recently donated $25,000 to Genesis House, a local organisation helping to break the cycle of homelessness.

Operating since 2004, Genesis House supports more than 2,500 people each year — many of whom are young families with children — serving as a day shelter and offering temporary housing programs.

Genesis House traditionally sponsored apartment stays for people in urgent need of transitional housing. Now, the organisation is taking a different approach. A community of four tiny homes ranging in size from 400-600 square feet is under construction on the property of a local church, each able to house families of up to six for 90 days. Construction will be complete later this winter, with two of the tiny homes set to start accepting residents in February. Over time, Genesis House could expand the community to include up to eight tiny homes.

“This new community housing will support up to 32 Siloam Springs families a year, providing them warmth, safety and stability,” said Joel Sappenfield, president of Cobb-Vantress. “It is an honour for Cobb to contribute to such an important community resource and also to give back to a community that has given our Cobb family so much.”

Cobb’s $25,000 donation will be used for material costs, program expenses and given to Genesis House’s endowment fund. Sappenfield presented the Genesis House team with a check at Cobb’s headquarters last fall.

“On behalf of Genesis House, I would like to thank Cobb for their generosity, helping us further exceed our fundraising goal of $200,000 (raising $280,000),” said Christina Drake, Genesis House board president and managing broker for Coldwell Banker in Siloam Springs. “We couldn’t do what we do — help individuals overcome obstacles to self-sufficiency — without the support of local businesses like Cobb, as well as the generosity of the public.”

Each year through their work, team member initiatives and volunteer programs, Cobb-Vantress gives back to the communities in which it operates. To learn more, visit http://cobb-vantress.com/about-cobb/a-better-world.
