Print This Page French poultry sales down 20 pct on bird flu fears
FRANCE - French poultry sales between Saturday and Wednesday were down 20 pct from a year earlier in volume terms, the president of the French food distributors' trade group FCD said.The decline came amid concerns about the spread into Europe of the potentially fatal H5N1 bird flu virus.
It confirms the magnitude of a decline reported earlier this week by a French poultry trade group.
There was no immediate indication of whether the decline was offset by increased demand for other foods at retailers.
