Print This Page Egg producers struggling with oversupply
AUSTRALIA - Queensland egg producers who have been accused of flooding interstate markets are now calling for compensation.They are blaming the oversupply of eggs on new legislation introduced in all states last year, forcing producers to increase cage sizes and install temperature control equipment.
Chairman of the Australian Egg Corporation Jeff Ironside, says the new regulations have improved production dramatically and now producers are struggling to break even.
"It's difficult to find a way out of this morass because there is so much production out there that the egg industry is certainly not profitable," he said.
"The upshot of it all is that the state governments haven't given us any direction.
