The broad-spectrum, water-soluble product contains three forms of the powerful, field-proven antibiotic sulfa — sulfamethazine, sulfamerazine and sulfaquinoxaline — and may be used to aid control of coccidiosis and acute fowl cholera caused by pathogens susceptible to these antibiotics.

The unique three-sulfa formulation offers enhanced potency compared to traditional single-sulfa products, while also providing a wider margin of safety.

Because PoultrySulfa is a supplement to drinking water, it gets into birds quickly, going to work on disease and reducing the potential for transmission to other birds in the flock.

For acute fowl cholera in chickens or turkeys caused by Pasteurella multocida susceptible to sulfamethazine, sulfamerazine and sulfaquinoxaline, Alpharma recommends providing a 0.040% solution for 2 to 3 days and repeating treatments as necessary.

PoultrySulfa can also be used in chickens and turkeys to treat outbreaks of coccidiosis caused by Eimeria pathogens susceptible to the product’s three sulfas. For example:

• For turkeys with coccidiosis caused by Eimeria melagrimitis or E. adenoeides, Alpharma recommends a simple “2-3-2-3-2” regimen, starting with a 0.025% solution for 2 days followed by 3 days of plain water, 2 more days of treatment, 3 more days of plain water, and then another 2-day treatment. This regimen may be repeated as needed.
  
  

• In chickens with coccidiosis caused by E. tenella or E, necatrix, the company suggests a “2-3-2” treatment program beginning with a higher 0.040% solution for 2 days, followed by plain water for 3 days and then a 0.025% solution for 2 days. If bloody droppings appear, Alpharma recommends repeating the 0.025% treatment for 2 more days.
