Egg company urged to identify itself amid salmonella outbreak

AUSTRALIA - One of South Australia's largest egg producers is urging a local egg company linked to a salmonella outbreak to reveal itself.

The State Health Department is investigating links between eggs supplied to the Buona Pasta company and 17 cases of salmonella poisoning.

The department is refusing to publicly name the local egg producer involved because there is no conclusive proof eggs are the source.

Carol Copeland from Valley Poultry fears consumers will avoid buying eggs altogether, and she wants the unnamed egg company to come forward.

"I would ask them to come clean, be honest, stand up, and not put that shadow over every egg producer in this state," she said.

Ms Copeland says the longer the company remains unknown, the greater the damage to the industry.
