SOUTH KOREA - South Korea’s imports of beef and chicken gained in the first half of the year while its pork imports declined, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry said Tuesday.

It said the country brought in a total of 77,735 tons of beef on a quarantine-cleared basis, up 7.2 percent from a year ago. Australian beef accounted for the majority with 54,235 tons, followed by beef from New Zealand and Mexico, Yonhap News Agency reported.

Chicken imports from January through June shot up 47.3 percent year-on-year to 31,245 tons, with 24,845 tons coming from the United States. Brazil, Denmark and Australian chicken meat were also imported.
