UGANDA - Poultry farmers should restock their farms in order to bridge the shortage of chicken caused by the Bird Flu scare that escalated in October last year, a top Uganda Poultry Association of Uganda (PAU) official said last week.“Since June 2003, the poultry industry globally has had serious challenges from the Avian Influenza virus H5NI strain that caused great economic impact on those countries that have directly suffered from the attack,” Aga Sekalala, the PAU chairman, said.
He said in October last year, the virus was shown present in Africa particularly in Nigeria.
“Its likelihood of attacking Uganda was highly likely due to the fact that the migratory birds that are thought to be carriers of the virus fly over Uganda on their southern migration,” Sekalala, said in a press statement.
