Latvian Poultry Farm Switches To Free Range Eggs

LATVIA - The SIA Marupes lauksaimniecibas centrs poultry farm in Latvia has recently started producing free range eggs, the first poultry farm in the country to do so, according to Baltic Business News.

The farm's director, Viktors Svircenoks, said that although the eggs cost 40-60 per cent more to produce than eggs produced by hens in battery cages, the farm will only charge a 10 per cent premium for them.

The free range eggs will be marked with the "2 LV" designation. SIA Marupes lauksaimniecibas centrs is investing LVL1 million (USD1.83 million) in rebuilding its production facilities to allow for the production of free range eggs.
