Pimples

Description

Pimples are small lumps of calcified material on the egg shell. Some can be broken off easily without damage to the shell while others may leave a small hole in the shell.

Incidence

An incidence of about 1% of total production is common.

Cause Control
Thought to be caused by foreign material in the oviduct, which may be associated with:
Ageing of bird Keep flock age as low as economically possible.
Poor nutrition Prevent excess calcium intake in winter.
Strain of bird Be aware that some strains may produce eggs with a higher incidence of this fault.
