International Egg and Poultry Review: India Reports Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza to OIE
On January 11, 2012 India reported an outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).The outbreak killed three birds; more than 35,000 birds in a three km radius zone were considered susceptible and were culled. Over the next several weeks outbreaks were reported in Orissa, Meghalaya, and Tripura. The last reported outbreak was on March 16, 2012.

Meghalaya and Tripura are located North and East of Bangladesh. Orissa is situated next to Andhra Pradesh, India’s largest egg producer and second largest poultry meat producer.

US Egg and Egg Products Exports to EU-27
US shell egg exports to the EU-27 were sharply higher for the first two months of 2012 compared to the same period a year ago. Exports of dried egg yolk rose 216% while dried whole eggs and dried albumin dropped 24% and 61% respectively.
There were no exports of whole egg fresh/frozen/cooked or egg albumin (not dried) reported for January-February 2012. Egg yolks, fresh/frozen/cooked totaled 41 tons; the last time fresh/frozen/cooked egg yolks were exported to the EU-27 was in 2010.
