Shell eggs broken totaled 171 million dozen during March 2012, down 5 percent from March a year ago, but 3 percent
above the 166 million broken last month.
During calendar year 2012 through March, shell eggs broken totaled 507 million dozen, up slightly from the comparable period in 2011. To date, cumulative total edible product from eggs broken in 2012 was 662 million pounds, up slightly from 2011.
Data presented in this report were compiled from Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) inspection reports. The best available data at the time of publication were used.
