Broiler-type and Egg-type Hatch Down with Turkey Hatch Up

Broiler-type chicks hatched during 2012 totaled 8.93 billion, down 1 percent from 2011.

Leading United States breeders had intended placements of 81.0 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during 2012, down 2 percent from 2011.

Placements of broiler chicks for meat production in the 19 State weekly program totaled 8.42 billion during the 52 week period ending December 29, 2012, down 2 percent from the 52 week period ending December 31, 2011.

Egg-type chicks hatched during 2012 totaled 471 million, down 2 percent from 2011.

Leading United States breeders had intended placements of 2.68 million egg-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during 2012, down 13 percent from 2011.

Turkey poults hatched during 2012 were up 1 percent from 2011, with 288 million hatched. Net poult placements totaled 284 million for 2012, up 2 percent from 2011.

The capacity of chicken hatcheries on January 1, 2013 was 905 million eggs, up slightly from January 1, 2012.

The capacity of turkey hatcheries was 40.2 million eggs on January 1, 2013, down slightly from January 1, 2012.
