Summary

Broiler-type and Egg-type Hatch Up with Turkey Hatch Down

Broiler-type chicks hatched in the United States during 2013 totaled 9.06 billion, up 1 percent from 2012.

Leading United States breeders had intended placements of 81.6 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during 2013, up 1 percent from 2012.

Placements of broiler chicks for meat production in the 19 State weekly program totaled 8.56 billion during the 52 week period ending December 28, 2013, up 1 percent from the 52 week period ending December 29, 2012.

Egg-type chicks hatched during 2013 totaled 510 million, up 5 percent from 2012.

Leading United States breeders had intended placements of 2.87 million egg-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during 2013, up 7 percent from 2012.

Turkey poults hatched during 2013 were down 6 percent from 2012, with 269 million hatched. Net poult placements totaled 261 million for 2013, down 8 percent from 2012.

The capacity of chicken hatcheries on January 1, 2014, was 902 million eggs, down slightly from January 1, 2013.

The capacity of turkey hatcheries was 40.5 million eggs on January 1, 2014, up 3 percent from January 1, 2013.
