Shell eggs broken totaled 183 million dozen during May 2012, up 5 percent from May a year ago, and 8 percent above the 169 million broken last month.

During calendar year 2012 through May, shell eggs broken totaled 859 million dozen, up 2 percent from the comparable period in 2011. To date, cumulative total edible product from eggs broken in 2012 was 1,116 million pounds, up 1 percent from 2011.

Data presented in this report were compiled from Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) inspection reports. The best available data at the time of publication were used.
