January-March 2012 poultry production continued its upward trend, growing over 7% compared to the same period ago.

Chicken production increased 7.38% and duck production rose 1.82%. Chicken and duck egg production increased by 6.92% and 1.18% respectively.

In calendar year 2011 chicken production totaled 1,414,290 MT live weight, up 4.52% from 1,353,130 MT in 2010. Growth was due to the expansion of commercial broiler farms and the higher number of broilers dressed. Duck production was 33,153 MT, up 0.53% from 32,970 MT in 2010. Chicken egg production grew 6.92% in 2011 and duck egg production increased by 1.18%.

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, frozen chicken meat exports shipped to the Philippines totaled 35.6 MT in 2009, 46.3MT in 2010 and 57.8MT in 2011. This total may include product that is transshipped.

US Poultry and Egg Exports to the Philippines

The Philippines is the largest market for US foods and beverages in Southeast Asia and is one of the fastest growing markets in the world with a rapidly growing middle class and an historical preference for US products.

The value of US poultry meat exports to the Philippines totaled $70.0 million in 2011, an increase of over 39% when compared to 2010 ($50.3 million). The value of eggs and egg products exports totaled to $1.9 million in 2011, up almost 133% compared a year ago ($825 thousand).The growth rate for 2006-2011 was 389.8% for poultry meats and 230.9% for eggs and egg products.

In volume, poultry meat exports grew 47.8% to reach 72,689 metric tons in 2011. Eggs and egg products exports totaled 612 MT, up 187.1% from 2010. The 5 year growth rate (2006-2011) was 249.0% for poultry meats and 173.4% for eggs and egg products.

In 2011 the majority of poultry meat exports to the Philippines consisted of HS Codes 0207140090 (frozen chicken, other) and 0207140010 (frozen chicken leg quarters). Dried whole eggs and dried albumin were the top egg products exported.
