Shell eggs broken totaled 168 million dozen during December 2011, down 5 percent from December a year ago, and 3 percent below the 174 million broken last month.

During calendar year 2011 through December, shell eggs broken totaled 2,083 million dozen, up 1 percent from the comparable period in 2010. To date, cumulative total edible product from eggs broken in 2011 was 2,699 million pounds, up 1 percent from 2010.

Data presented in this report were compiled from Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) inspection reports. The best available data at the time of publication were used.
