20,000 birds were placed through direct delivery from Hybro’s Pure Line breeding farm at Herveld (The Netherlands).

Hybro has, says Project Manager Sjef van Dongen, reached a true milestone in its expansion programme, despite serious delays in placing the first flocks as a result of ‘red tape’ and bureaucracy. The Dutch company has worked diligently with its Brazilian partner Hygen to obtain all the necessary (farm) licences and registrations to import this flock through Hybro Brasil.

Breeding measurements have begun, and at 22 weeks, the flock will be transferred to the brand new production unit at Minas Gerais, which is equipped with Hybro’s new, larger format cages and boxes so that further breeding activities can be undertaken. The Brasilian operation will be further strengthened by the involvement of the Euribrid Breeding Research Centre, with plans to extend the Genomic Selection research programme with this flock.

Hybro is, says Van Dongen, delighted with progress in Brazil. All infrastructure (electricity, water, roads) and the Farm’s first two rearing units are now ready for operation – with construction on four additional production units and the hatchery currently ongoing.
