The Federal Board of Revenue will submit its facts-finding report in the Supreme Court regarding the involvement of importers in importing poultry feeds mixed with pig meat. During the last suo motu hearing on September 5, 2007, the larger bench had shown deep concern over the import of poultry feed mixed with pig meat. Reportedly, in December 2005, Custom authorities, Karachi, confiscated 50 containers of poultry feed having pig meat mixed, arriving from a European country. Samples were sent to PCSIR Laboratories, Karachi, whose report proved on January 6, 2006, that the feed included pig meat. Chief Collector Customs (South), Munir Qureshi of Customs House (South), also mentioned that imported poultry feed contained pig meat.

When contacted, Dr Alamdar Hussain, registrar, Pakistan Veterinary Council, Dr briefed that the Ministry aof Commerce had clearly restricted the import of any live animal, bone and meat meal, food and feed ingredients from mad cow disease-affected countries. Dr Alamdar added that the negative list of the customs also banned the import of poultry feed containing pig meat. All this happened because the Ministry of Food Agriculture and Livestock seriously failed to make any law for poultry farming, poultry bio-security, its marketing.
