The poultry industry seems to have changed the economic conditions of many unemployed young people in the state, reports Navhind Times from the state of Goa.

While some have achieved success with the help of government schemes, others have failed in self-employment schemes. The government has created opportunities in various fields including carpentry or poultry, pig and dairy farming. Dairy products, poultry farming and its products seem to have gone well in the state in giving a boost to the economic standard of the Goans for quite some time now.

Take the case of Antonio Fernandes, the former sarpanch of Majorda village and now a panch in the village panchayat for the last five terms. He has moved into the poultry product business. Mr Fernandes disclosed that since the last 6 to 7 years, his economic condition has changed after taking up the poultry farming business. He sells live chicken and other poultry products at a small kiosk set up in the Majorda market. He disclosed that within four years, he was able to buy a new car.

Another person who has succeeded in poultry business is one Marian D’Souza from Seraulim. He explained that his main business is to sell live chicken to various outlets. He disclosed to the newspaper that although he is satisfied with the business, the government needs much to do to help in giving further aid in uplifting the industry.

Also from Khareband, Shaikh Nisar said that poultry business is quite viable, adding that he has been able to support his family solely by the sale of poultry products.

Much attracted to this business is a young man from Navelim, Shirvodem. John Jaques who says that though it is a business involving hard work, the end result is good as long as one gets good profit. He says that chicken-selling has improved his economic condition to a great extent, adding that he has been able to marry his two daughters owing to the income attained from the poultry business.

Sources disclosed that the government department carries out the schemes efficiently. Even banks are now willing to approved projects connected with this industry as the income seems to be flowing steadily in this sector. It was also learned that since the last two or three years, the industry has seen a rise. Sources said most people nowadays prefer to buy a broiler or other chicken products, owing to the high fish and vegetable costs.

Unemployed youngsters are seriously pursuing sale of chicken products mainly through fast-food outlets, selling hot chicken tandoori etc, sources revealed to the newspaper.
