Shell Eggs Broken Up 9 Per Cent from Last Year

US - Shell eggs broken totaled 179 million dozen during September 2008, up 9 percent from September a year ago, and 5 percent above the 170 million broken last month.

September 2008 contained 22 weekdays and 4 Saturdays. September 2007 contained 20 weekdays and 5 Saturdays.

During calendar year 2008 through September, shell eggs broken totaled 1,542 million dozen, up 3 percent from the comparable period in 2007. To date, cumulative total edible product from eggs broken in 2008 was 2,012 million pounds, up 3 percent from 2007.
